This hardcover book is bound in orange cloth with black lettering and light green decorations. Edgewear; owner's name on front endpaper; tanned pages; general wear and soil. Frontispiece is a sepiatone illustration from the book, with caption written in elegant script. A story of California in the time of the settlers. Originally published in 1884, it takes place after the Mexican-American War and portrays the life of a mixed-race Irish-Native American orphan girl, who suffers racial discrimination and hardship. 424 pages; approx. 5"x8".
