Signed first edition of Ren Black's collection of recipes. Book is bound in off-white cloth boards with maroon and gilt lettering on the spine. Cover has gilt decorative work and maroon lettering. Covers soiled with wear; spine is browned; inner pages browned at edges, but most are clean. Half-title page has handwritten dedication to Mrs. Suzanne Cole of Washington, D.C., with Rene Black's signature and a hand-drawn self-portrait, dated Nov. 28 1955. Black also inscribed a motto: In paue(?) solo non vivit homo which translates Man does not live only in the few. Black, the renowned maitre d'hotel of the Fontainebleau and manager of all restaurants of the Waldorf-Astoria, collects recipes from his distinguished career as a gourmet chef in this book. Includes details about how and when many of these famous dishes were first created. 205 pages, including index; approx. 5"x8".
