The Impending Crisis of the South

This antique hardcover book is bound in brown cloth boards with gilt spine lettering and decorative patterns on front cover. Cover is edgeworn; spine slightly faded; antique bookplate on front inner board; some foxing, small tears on first few pages. Most inner pages are clean, bright and unmarked. Helper's treatise against slavery was a sensation at the time of its publication, appealing as it did to the self-interest of slave-owning whites, rather than to a sense of moral duty or obligation as did the Abolitionists. 420 pages; approx. 5"x7".
