Ten First Editions

Collection of vintage first edition novels. Overall, the books show a bit of wear and soil but are good solid copies.

John Erskine. First edition. This antique hardcover book is bound in black cloth boards with orange lettering and decoration on the front and spine.  Book is in good condition with owner's name, tanned pages, foxing to the foredge, faded spine, wear, and soil.. Erskine retells the story of Sir Galahad and the Knights of the Round Table in a modern interpretation. 340 pages; approx. 5"x8" Bobbs-Merrill,1926.

The Mustard Seed
Vicki Baum. First edition. First line: "For more than ten minutes the plane had been circling over the airport and the passengers were growing restive; the baby in the front had begun to cry." Book is in good condition with light wear, glue residue on the innerboards, and foxing. 1st edition, 422 pages, 5 x 7.5. Michael Joseph, 1953.

This antique hardcover novel has an orange cover with black lettering & small illustration.  Bookplate; rear cover soil, tanned pages, faded spine, general wear and soil.  Set in San Francisco during the Gold Rush, this book tells the story of the Lawrence family over several generations.  357 pages; approx. 5"x8". Doubleday, 1930.

Thames Williamson. First edition. This 5.5 x 7.5 hard cover book has blue lettering on the brown spine and cover. 312 pages. 1st Edition. Spine faded, edgewear, heaviest at spine. Coward McCann, 1929.

The Heroine in Bronze
James Lane Allen. First edition. Gilt top edge, binding nice and tight. Gilt decoration and lettering on spine and cover, spine has faded a bit. 5 x 8 with 281 pages, plus ads. Macmillan, 1912.

Booth Tarkington. First edition.  Two college-aged men in 1762 vying for the affections of a young woman. Book is in good condition with tanned pages, cover soil, edgewear. Rear hinge cracked but holding. 179 pages, 5 x 8. Harper and Bros., 1903.
