Attack on the Massachusetts 6th At Baltimore

This 6" x 9.5" original antique plate was recovered from Volume One of "The History Of the Civil War In America" by John S. C. Abbott. The book was published in 1863 by the Henry Bill Company of New York. Abbot's two volume history of the Civil War, the first volume published during the war, claims to be ”a full and impartial account of the origin and progress of the rebellion.” Book is ”Illustrated with maps, diagrams, and numerous steel engravings of battle scenes, from original designs by Darley, and other eminent artists, and portraits of distinguished men.”

This illustration, titled "Attack on the Massachusetts 6th At Baltimore: April 19th 1861" was produced from a drawing by William Momberger and engraved by George Perine. The paper is generally clean and bright, with no significant tears or stains. Some foxing and light stains towards the edges. Original tissueguard is included.
