This antique hardcover edition of Aesop's Fables is bound in brown cloth boards with gilt spine lettering, and gilt decorations on the front and spine showing a crane with his head in a wolf's mouth. Cover has some wear and soil; spine slightly cocked; inner pages somewhat browned, but clean. Numerous engravings throughout. Along with the well-known fables, this volume includes "instructive applications," or explanations of the moral, at the close of each short tale. 344 pages; approx. 5"x7".
