The Black Pirates - 1942-1944

A photographic history of the "Black Pirates, " the 400th Bomb Squadron of the 90th Heavy Bomb Group, during World War II. Dust jacket is brown, and black-and-white decorations and lettering; some chipping, wear and rips. Book itself has decorative front cover; some light soil; most inner pages clean, binding tight. Illustrated throughout with photos and drawings, the book "endeavours to present that combination of men and things, experiences and deeds, which is the tale of the Black Pirates, " according to the introduction. The book was compiled while the 400th Bomb Squadron was still stationed in New Guinea, and was published in Australia in 1944 before the war's end. Arranged as a scrapbook, the book tells the story of the squadron's travels, campaigns and adventures with a mix of heroism and humor, giving the reader an excellent picture of life and conditions in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Also included is a softcover booklet, the Jolly Roger Who's Who, a post-war directory of veterans of the heavy bomb squadron, also printed in Australia. Booklet is 31 pages, approx. 7"x7". Black Pirates book is 95 pages, approx. 12"x9".
