The Hearthstone

Wonderfully illustrated and fascinating work on Victorian homemaking in America during the Gilded Age. Holloway (1843-1930), was an associate editor with the Brooklyn Daily Eagle subsequent to publishing her wildly successful Ladies of the White House. This volume is bound in blue cloth boards, decorated with illustrations and a gilt medallion on front cover, gilt titles on spine. 7 x 9 inches with 559 pages, chapters on home design, cooking and recipes, housekeeping, home medical care, sewing and much more. Some edgewear, covers have faded a bit. Edges were marbled, but they have faded as well. Pages browned but not brittle. binding is tight. Frontispiece tissueguard missing.
