The How and Why Library

This lovely antique hardcover children's reference book has a light brown cloth cover with maroon leather spine, bright gilt spine decoration and lettering.  Spine is somewhat edgeworn, owner's name, slight slant and light soil.  Marbled page edges.  A wonderful book that aims to make learning fun for young children, with chapters on geography, natural history, health, science,  and more, including a very useful section titled "The How and Why of Common Things" which answers many questions frequently asked by young children (i.e., "Why is the sky blue?").  All this is illustrated throughout with many photographs and drawings, some in color, including hand-tinted photos.  469 pages; approx.6"x9".
