Authored by Bird after leaving his post as Vice Consul-General of Haiti as a sort of rebuttal to Bellamy's "Looking Backward," this book theorizes that the U.S. will gain sovereignty over the entire Western Hemisphere by the end of the 20th century. Includes many vignettes on technological and social "advances," including chapters such as "Our Foreign Relations in 1999," "Creamtion Becomes a Law," "Wireless Telegraphy," "The Negro Question Settled," "Removal of The Capital" and more.
