This antique hardcover book is bound in decorative brown cloth boards with gilt lettering on the front and spine. Cover has beveled borders around the title lettering. Some wear at cover edges; inner pages lightly browned, but most are clean. Illustrated with black-and-white engravings. This book tells the tale of a number of interesting characters who gather "around the tea-table" and share their different outlooks on life. Talmage was one of the most prominent religious leaders in the United States during the mid- to late-19th century, equaled as a pulpit orator perhaps only by Henry Ward Beecher. 504 pages; approx. 6"x8".
