17 biographies of famous women each with a engraved portrait by Charles Staal. Includes: Sappho, Lucretia, Aspasia, Cleopatra, St. Cecillia, Heloise, Laura, Valentine De Milan, Joan of Arc, Margaret of Anjou, Isabella of Castile, Lady Jane Grey, Pocahontas, La Valliere Maria Theresa, Catherine II, and Florence Nightingale.

Spine ends and corners worn, but overall leather is dark and gilt is bright. Hinges a bit worn, but holding. Some light foxing.  8 inches by 11 inches with 407 pages.
